For this 2024 edition, I approached the theme ‘natural cork’ from the opposite angle. The highly ornate design, inspired by ‘A Dream of a Luncheon on the Grass’, contrasts with the raw appearance one might expect. Here, the colour, texture, finishes – all the refinement – are achieved by working the cork sheet with natural raw materials. It is the very magic of this material that produces surprising visual results when worked in its natural state. Its technical limitations give rise to unexpected forms and visuals, whilst the presence of the bark is evident in the chosen structures, lending the cork a supple, textile-like quality.
